This weekend was full of family fun and food! I invited my husband’s side of the family for a CNY reunion dinner at one of my favorite restaurants, Koi Palace.
My favorite dish of the evening was a beef dish with mushrooms and peppers.

We had whole rock cod, longevity noodles, Peking duck, a beautiful array of BBQ pork and crispy pork belly, stuffed and fried crab balls with eggplant, candied prawns with walnuts, fish maw with crabmeat soup, pea shoots and yummy fried donuts for dessert!
For New Years Day, we were quite superstitious and didn’t use knives or scissors all day long. We also didn’t wash out hair (which washes away good luck) or take out any garbage.
It was just a simple breakfast, but we started the day with a tasty lotus root soup with winter melon and peanuts (stock is made of beef and duck bones). We ended up eating out for the rest of the meals because not using a knife was challenging. For lunch I made smashed potatoes and sausages with torn lettuce salad and raw radishes. I wasn’t sure if using a mandolin was the same as a sharp “knife” but I didn’t want to take the chance!

Is this Koi Palace in Daly City? I’ve never been there for dinner, only dim sum (and had to fight the crowds!). Thanks for sharing!
Yes it is! I’ve been here for dinner on many occasions and the dishes and set family meals are great. They take reservations so no need to wait too long for dinner! Thank you for visiting my blog!
